Enjoy a sailing trip in the Ionian Islands: Learn about the fantastic beaches and beautiful ports and marinas of the Ionian Islands on a sailing holiday in Greece.
The Ionian Sea got its name from Io, one of the lovers of the god father Zeus from Greek mythology. The region of the Ionian Islands begins in the north on the border to Albania with the green island of Corfu (Kerkyra). Seven islands form the main group: Corfu, Paxos, Antipaxos, Lefkada (Lefkas), Ithaca, Kefalonia (Kephalonia) and Zakynthos.
“Another world, another Greece”. This is how many sailors describe the Ionian Sea and its islands. And it is true: The Ionian islands, which run parallel to the western Greek mainland coast, have a completely different character than the islands of the Aegean Sea. The Greeks call them “seven islands”, but in reality there are significantly more islands here. An ideal place for sailing!
